This is a great book for those that are already intrigued and followers of Hinduism or Buddhism. Author Ananda Karunesh had a spiritual awakening when he was 19 years old and has spent the last 33 years continuing meditation and spirituality practices. He opens himself up to his readers in the prologue of the book. Giving the reader some insight into his life, his passion for spirituality, and his connection with the goddesses. This connection to him opened the book up for me to fully engage and trust in the author. I loved how he chose to present each chapter through the voice of the goddesses themselves as they teach the reader about this history, culture, religion, impact, and philosophy. A Thousand Seeds of Joy strives to teach the reader forgotten narratives but also present a way of looking toward the future. Of creating a future that ends suffering and engages deeply in love and togetherness. It is this fundamental desire of the book that makes it such an intense and beautiful story. My favorite sections reading this book were the deep looks at the goddesses and deities and being given information on a subject that I knew very little about going in. I also really liked the structure of the narrative itself. Karunesh poses questions to the goddesses and presents their answers. In this way, the book is set up a conversation. There are long answers, short answers, and often clarifying questions and answers. By doing this, the book is able to weave natural through subjects as conversation do, finding points of interest and knowledge within a subject. This flow made the book easy to read and kept me engaged. I found this book to be not only very informative but incredibly moving to read. I would recommend this book.

The first book in the Ascended Goddesses series, A Thousand Seeds of Joy, by Ananda Karunesh, looks at the teachings of Lakshmi and Saraswati to explore the concepts of spirituality, love, and equality. The book is written in a very personal manner. Each section of the book is split into thematic chunks that explore a series of questions. The questions are posed to the goddesses Lakshmi or Saraswati who answer them with their own teachings. The personal feeling of the book works well not only with the theme but with the authors own reasons for writing to book. I very much enjoyed reading the author, Ananda Karunesh, reasons for writing the book itself. Reading about why he wrote the book and why the message is important to him made the subject matter that much more meaningful and personal to read about. Karunesh has clearly done his research and has created an in-depth, well-rounded, interesting, informative, and soulful work that speaks to many of the feelings that of needing to find a path, coming together, and ending the suffering of the world. His passion enriched my own eagerness to read the book, and I was not disappointed. The questions asked are important questions we ask ourselves, and the answers are deliberate, enriched, and full of hope.I also greatly appreciated the endnotes in the book which helped enlighten me on some of the phrases, myth, and history behind the subjects of the book. This really helped push my understanding and made me feel like I was getting even more out of the book. For those that enjoy and feel they get a lot out of nonfiction books in the spirituality genre, I would definitely recommend this book. It is a beautiful guide into a way of thinking and well worth the read.

A lot of books go a little far when they mention the important of feminism, and that gets annoying. But A Thousand Seeds doesnâ€™t do that. In the first beginning pages, it points out the important of everyone getting along and appreciating femininity. I donâ€™t know a lot about that, and Iâ€™m still learning, but it made a lot of sense. We all want to help each other. It is a lovely touch. We can all be in touch with the feminine, even if we donâ€™t really touch it or use it. Still, we can appreciate it. Thatis justone of the things I got from the message. The text is a conversation, like an interview or Q&A with the goddesses he is in tune with. It may seem odd, but there is a loving connection in its delivery. Some references were a little odd and I didn't understand some of the cultural and literary references though there were explanations. The story pieces as told by the goddesses were great because that provided more detail and was interesting to read from a feminism point of view.Beyond the story references, there were mentions of religious figures in regards to feminism, which included some interesting ideas. It mentions Lord Krishna, Jesus Christ, and more. I donâ€™t think Iâ€™ve read anything that includes those type of spiritual figures with a positive spin on feminism, so that was definitely a joy to read. I take this very seriously and the work was well done. Some things were different to my knowledge of religion and philosophy, but overall A Thousand Seeds did right for feminism for the most part.

So many people are fascinated with the Amish. There's a whole fiction genre based around their lifestyle. I think many people view them as Little House on the Prairie...but this memoir reveals a very different story. Strict rules, hard-handed discipline, lack of communication--this is Emma's experience. Her retelling of her first menstrual cycle and horrifying dating experiences show that she was not adequately prepared for these things, even within their community. I like how Emma had faith in God, even though He was never spoken of in her church or family. She shares that she received Jesus as her Savior in a Baptist Church after leaving. I like how there is no rebellion or bitterness.

In her closing Q&A to this memoir Ms. Gingerich comments on the puzzling fascination of many Americans ("the English") for the lifestyle of Amish communities, and I must confess she hoisted me on that petard rather nicely. It is easy for a man to fantasize about "the simple life", to dream of conducting one's daily affairs without all the aggravations of automobiles and electronics, but when one takes up this slim volume and begins reading the author's descriptions of her Amish life the blinders that have kept reality at bay are forcefully removed. I noted as I read that from a male perspective it might still be something of an ideal world; but when I found myself picturing my daughter (whom I raised on my own for most of her young life) being forced into that life of servitude and crushing obeisance that happy little fantasy quickly turned into a nightmarish quagmire. And it's not just horse farts and dawn-to-dusk drudgery that force one to throw off a lifetime of tunnel-vision. I applaud Ms. Gingerich for the clear and convincing way she has opened my eyes and I highly recommend this book to anyone who might still be thinking as I once did that the Amish are to be admired.

Beyond basically interesting, i'd call this a "page-turner" to read through and I found myself regretting when I'd turned the LAST page and it was over. Living in an area where many Pennsylvania Amish live, I have certainly learned that all are different and one would not find the same lifestyle and personal conduct behind all closed family doors that Emma experienced. After seeing her interview on Megan Kelly's Show, I immediately ordered her book to learn more about her personal story. I can't imagine anyone reading this and not be hoping she makes a successful "Escape" ! It's an informative story, yes, but one that will draw you deep into a world that you will be thankful Emma managed to leave! Well done, Emma!

I have read many fiction and non fiction books on the Amish through the years. I know their lives are not the romanticized ones we read in various fiction books and this book brings that home. The author, Emma, never felt comfortable in her Amish community. She especially longed for more education and in the Amish community children only go to school through 8th grade.What was interesting about this book is it showed what she had to do to leave her home & the difficulty she had. In particular she was very kind hearted and didn't realize how evil the world can be. The other thing is she actually talks about bedside courtship, which is something some Amish communities believe in. It was interesting to read a true account of how this works and to see how lax the rules are for courtship.Overall a very interesting book. There are some very gritty parts so I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone under the age of 16 without a parent reading it first.

I became aware of this book and was drawn to read it after seeing a YouTube recording of Emma when she appeared on Good Morning America. I've read many fictional Amish romance novels and was familiar with many aspects of Amish life but I'd never heard of any Amish communities as strict as the one in which Emma was raised.I enjoyed reading about her young life and applaud her for doing what she felt was right for her. I look forward to hearing more about her life in the "English" world.Thank you, Emma, for sharing with us..

This is not the type of autobiography I had expected to give 5 stars. But Gingerich and her editor write clearly about her life and the author is such a hero that it's impossible not to like her and to root for her. She is unflinchingly honest about herself and about the simple pleasures and satisfactions she wanted in life, and how the Amish world was simply never going to allow her to be happy.And though Gingerich is no longer Amish, she is still very much a young woman with deep religious and social values who is generous with her money and dedicated to improving herself through education and hard work.Her self-discipline and courage are straight out of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" and Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House", which are, comedian to think of it, pretty timeless.Gingerich shows that it's possible to break out and build your own future without spitting on one's past.

I've read a lot of Amish memoirs, but this is definitely my favorite. It's emotionally suspenseful, and in some ways I can identify with the author - I'm not Plain, but I was raised with by overbearing parents who didn't let me be myself. Emma's book is a true story of overcoming great odds through sheer determination. It's about a free-thinking girl who breaks the bonds she's been forced into. It's an inspirational story that any Christian can enjoy.

As someone who was on my 5th trip to Puerto Vallarta, I bought the book for some new ideas on restaurants I hadn't tried, and on new activities. The book does a good job for that purpose, and for its $10 price on amazon, I can't complain. However, its coverage of other subjects is fairly poor; I would almost say downright silly. For example, it spends 75 pages going through oodles of general information with limited to no relevance to Puerto Vallarta, such as how many Starbucks in the U.S. have T-mobile hotspots, the relative benefits of Yahoo versus Hotmail accounts, and the location of the South African embassy in Mexico City. For example, it goes through pages of customs formalities on taking your car into Mexico--yet I feel it's unlikely that someone who's going only to PV is going to drive there.What makes this all the more silly is that the book devotes only 7 pages to hotels in PV. It describes two in the Marina Vallarta area, two in the northern Hotel Zone (one of which it doesn't particularly recommend, giving it one star), three downtown, and 3 in the southern Hotel Zone. Of the three hotels discussed in the downtown area, one has been long torn down (the Molino de Agua), one is kind of yucky (the Playa Los Arcos--I've stayed there), and the third is a rather quirky choice--the Hacienda San Angel. This last hotel is a long hike to any beach, and its rooms range in price from $310-$590 depending on the room and season (except one room which goes for as little as $235 in low season). I'm sure it's a fine hotel for a small niche of customers, but it's not what I would include if I had only very limited space for hotel choices in my book.The book also has some space devoted to other cities, and another one of the other hotel recommendations which I found bizarre was the "Hotelito Desconocido" (unknown little hotel). Again, there must be a market for places like this, but I suspect that the market's pretty small for a hotel with no electricity (lit by candles), almost no activities, a beach with water unsafe to swim in (no swimming allowed), and mosquitos galore with rooms going for $300-$600 a night, not including a required meal plan.I don't mean to imply this book is useless. I did learn about new places to go with it, and the price is right. However, I have issue with the choices of material the books covered: to much of certain things, and too little of others.

This 2008 portable edition out in 2007 gives an overview for the mainstream, first time tourist to the area. The back cover reads,Experience a place the way the locals do...." but in reality it'shardly more than an introduction for the non-trekker types. Maybe someone who wants to play golf, buy drinks and wade in the Ocean will gets something from this little volume; otherwise it's a superficial overview of the area.I bought the book primarily to "discover" more about Manzanillo and was disappointed that it gave so little information.

I got some good tips from the book. It helped me get familar with the layout of the area. In short, the top things I learned from the book were:1) At the Puerto Vallarta airport keep your head down and don't talk to anyone. They're all trying to sell you something.2) Use the pedestrian walk to cross over the highway and get a cheaper cab than from the airport. (We bargained and got a $13 USD ride to Nuevo Vallarta)3) Vallarta Adventures is a reputable tour group in the area. We booked all our tours through them in advance on their website. [...]

I enjoyed this guide book. It's not super comprehensive, but then it's not meant to be. The small size enabled me to slip into my pocket and carry it with me. It had enough information to guide me around Puerto Vallarta, and we tried several of the restaurants that it recommended with good results - the La Palapa restaurant was superb! I loved that place - slightly expensive, but worth it. A very romantic beach front restaurant.Buy this guide-book and the Moon guide-book and you'll have enough information to explore the Puerto Vallarta area.

Very helpful, practical information laid out in a quick reference style.

I am an avid reader and I have to say, this is the greatest book I've ever read.This book holds the keys to national prosperity. It's almost unfathomable to me that one book can teach so much. You will learn about what an economy is, trade, wages, banking, monetary policy, taxes, public debts, agriculture, history, the list goes on and on.This book is must-read.Now a review of this specific edition: The font is quite small which makes it hard to read. This is especially a consideration for a 586 page book. I suggest finding another (rather than this Simon & Brown).

I should have read the description closer, but this is not a complete edition of the work. This is only one book of 5, so about 20% of the total text. As to the quality of it with this in mind, terrible. The type chosen is small and not attractive looking. If your eyesight it poor it will be hard to read. You can download the work for free many places on the internet. I prefer to have a physical book, but after this I will be much more careful in the future.In summary, this is basically a scam and a money grab. Do yourself a favor and don't order this. You're welcome.

I have read Wealth of Nations a couple of times and decided to download a copy to my phone so I can have it on hand always. Saying that, I still feel if you want to know how we (the middle class) got in such a financial quandary nowadays, I say go back to the best tutorial ever written, (so far). Adam Smith's insight into the business man's mind is as point on today as it was in the 1700's. He warned us then, what is happening now; fiat money, collusion, government favoritism, etc. Problem is, people would have to pick up a book and read about the darker side of the business world and the effect it has on the 'consumer', 'citizen', and 'environment'. It is difficult to influence a population with one book; when the population is bombarded 24/7 with business propaganda. As Smith says, "I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the public good." Today, I watch with amazement as every industry, (oil, auto industry, agri-business, etc.), advertise how 'green' and 'pro-consumer' they are.

The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith is truly an epic classic in our time. This 1000+page is obviously not that easy to read. (Especially in the part that he discusses Silver, etc.) Some of the ideas are ones that we've become very familiar with in our modern lives, not only in the field of economics, but also in politics, religion, law, and finance.Particularly interesting were his thesis on "Division of Labor"(page 15), rules of market place based on self interest(page 23-24), description of banking crisis (page 395), free trade (page 572, with the famous "invisible hand"), property rights (page 684), description of Founding Fathers in US (page 790), free market principle (page 873), rule of law (page 901, 1157), role of government (page 919), human nature and incentives (page 965), freedom of religion (page 1000-1001), progressive tax system (page 1065), government debt (page 1171), currency devaluation (page 1185).Many of the ideas that form a basis of American/Western society can be traced back to the ideas found in Wealth of Nations, which would be no small feat. (Rules of the market place, rule of law, property rights, freedom of religion comes to mind.)I would recommend it to anyone who has the will and time to peruse this superb volume.

One star only because the book was received damaged. The front page was torn at the spine - most of the way. For the price it is not worth returning, so I will get some glue and try to glue it back together.

Very disappointed with this format. It is obvious that it is printed on demand in the cheapest way possible. The print is small, the pages are filled top to bottom and edge to edge with print. Do yourself a favor and buy a used copy hardbound and you will be very happy.

It's Adam Smith. It's Wealth of Nations. It's foundational. There's nothing to critique about the book in this paltry review that all shed worthwhile light on the text itself that hasn't been more intelligently and fully examined over the last few hundred years by thousands of economists and thinkers around the world.However, as far as the Kindle version is concerned, and I'm only specifically talking about the format/medium of this text, that's just ok. Most of these free Kindle books leave a lot to be desired and this is no different. Since it wasn't translated we don't have to argue over the quality of the interpretation, however it is a dense tome and I find these require a little more navigation for full digestion. A lot of flipping back and forth, checking out the index, notes, table of contents, previous chapters, etc. And all of this is a bit challenging to do on the Kindle. Nevertheless, the text seems to fine. Scanned alright. So if you want to casually explore the thoughts of Smith on a less than ideal platform, here you go. As a scholar, I'd prefer a hard copy.

This is a must read for anyone interested in the creation of wealth. This revision had me spellbound taking me on a time warp trip with his research into a historical past before the time of writing. The answers to the worldâ€™s economic problems of to-day maybe found in the pages but are overlooked by the modern views of society, socialistic / communistic ideologies and a warping of word meanings. From manâ€™s beginnings there have always been those that have found it easier to take that which was not theirs, be it the historical royalty, clergy, modern politician or intelligentsia, the reason has always been the same, they deserve it. Removing incentive and insecure private property rights from the equation by taxing the worldâ€™s true wealth producing minority to support all others will in the end collapse all forms of progress and wealth creation. I could happily re-read from page one, just to be sure no small morsel was overlooked.
