Part of a 10 yr old's b-day gift She hasn't been out of her room in almost a week practicing.

This book was written in such an organized way. It showed numbered pictures of finished beaded embroidery designs on the left side of the page, and on the right side it showed how to do those designs that correspond to the numbered designs on the left. It had many illustrations, it showed basic and advanced designs, materials and tools, needles, It showed finished projects. I could go on and on. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to try beaded embroidery. It made something that looks complicated, easy.

This is a lovely little book that would be useful for any beader. I would particularly recommend it for beginners, but I think it would be useful at any skill level. Starting her book with the basics of bead embroidery the author then gives us about 150 designs, using many basic stitches which will already be familiar to most readers, such as Lazy Daisy, Cross, Feather, Cretan and Filling stitches.The illustrations in the book are really outstanding. The author provides very clear photos, in color, of the finished stitches and motifs followed by carefully drawn diagrams of the process of forming these stitches and motifs. She also gives us a cross stitch alphabet incorporating beads and a list of the beads and threads used in the illustrations if you should wish to use her color combinations.If you ever thought about bead embroidery but were not certain if it was for you this is the book you need.

This book is the best yet that I've bought on Amazon on beading and embroidery (and I've bought a few). The clean style of the layout and the instructional photography is the best. I have been exploring Japanese craft and quilt books lately, and because I learn visually, I am so grateful for these young designers and these types of books. They manage to show the steps via photos versus using a ton of words to explain each step. Yasuko Endo has done an excellent job and many thanks to her and the CRK group. (Interweave, take note. I LOVE that you published this book. More Japanese books should be translated into English for the craft market. Was this originally in Japanese? Some of the translations are a bit awkward in the text in the book, but good for you for making books like this available in English...Maybe you could do Yoko Saito's "Daily Quilt" next! I've ordered the Japanese copy translated into Chinese, since I couldn't find the French copy; I'm hoping it will be as easy to follow as this book is in terms of visual instruction...if not, I'll have to figure it out; I love a challenge!) This book was worth every penny I spent on it. Can't wait to gather together the tools and fabric to get started on my own stitch samples. If you love to embroider and embellish with beads, you will appreciate this book.

I specifically researched and bought this book to jazz up historical costumes that I sew to give them that extra finishing touch. I am using a combination of machine stitching for coverage areas and motifs then hand stitching borders and over the machine stitching to add authenticity and this guide helps me add beads into the mix to add texture. I wish I had purchased this sooner. The format is standard for Japanese zakka handicraft guides and this one focuses almost exclusively on borders/running/outline stitches. The section on motif embroidery is brief and is covered in a separate book by the same publisher.Keep in mind this book is for "folk" embroidery but it is not a guide in any way to doing high-fashion couture beading.

This is a beginning bead embroidery book and shows you the "how to" from the simplest to more complex borders and designs... giving you clear illustrations and pictures each step along the way. Great book with lots of ideas on how you might use these cute bead borders and designs to embellish clothing and accessories. It incorporates beads in well known embroidery stitches like straight stitch, cross stitch, lazy daisy and chain, buttonhole and blanket stitch, herringbone and cretan stitch and many others. There's even a chart showing which needle and thread size to use with each size/type of bead.

This book is very complete and easy to use. It has color pics in the front section and an overview of the stitches. The back section explains the stitches further. Each section has nice diagrams to follow. Good resource for experienced or beginner stitchers. I think the experienced can learn some new things from it and the the beginner, it will become a great go-to resource.

I thought this book will have only few examples. But on the contrary it has so many like an encyclopedia of stitches and examples of how you can embroider with beads. And once you start there are so many possibilities that you will never end.Great pictures, good examples and the best of all the instructions are like guides to learn, are well written and explained.I'll recommend buying this book first among other bead embroidery ones, and then you'll never put it down.

Got this for myself as I have checked it out of the library twice before and used it it. The directions are pretty clear and the patterns are wonderful - it's nice to dress up purchased items quickly. the first simple project took less than an hour. I did the simplest pattern around the neckline of a tee for me. Finding the right material in my stash that would work took longer than the stitching - LOL. I would do this again, and now I own the book , I can choose any pattern I like!

If I had the chance to purchase this when we first realized how serious their dad's illness was, it would have better prepared my kids for what to expect when he died. There is no way to completely prepare for the death of a parent but this book helps tremendously. The author provides useful insight and breaks down the steps and emotions of grief. Hearing what other kids/teens have gone through helped my kids feel normal. Seeing others come through this awful experience gives hope. There are phases of grief and it is so different for kids. They lose a caretaker, teacher, advocate, someone to hug them, play with them and listen to them. It's so much harder for kids. This is a great book! I wish it would have come out sooner. I recommend it for families with an ill parent so it can help prepare the kids too. It's easy to read so isn't overwhelming.

Cixi appears in this story as a low-grade concubine who has been chosen by the Emperor to satisfy his pleasures, be they sexual or artistic. A woman who has no say in political discourse, Cixi demonstrates an unusual intelligence and eventually influence in those family and ministerial members of the imperial family. Thus, it is no surprise that Cixi sees China going downhill when Western powers begin to flex their military muscles in threats if they are not given more trade rights in previously forbidden Chinese cities. While these "foreign devils" are posing war, Cixi is wise enough to discover China's shrinking economy and knows that growth for China lies in modernizing in order to improve her financial status.Westerners perhaps, in this present time of revolutions and coups, fail to appreciate how dramatic it was for Cixi to have a son by Emperor Xianfang and take over as co-Regent with the Emperor's wife, Empress Zhen, after the Emperor's death. Xianfang had made numerous decrees leading to the Opium War that infuriated foreign traders. Most unusual was the bond between Empress Zhen and Cixi, who shared precise opinions about foreign and domestic matters; the Empress, on the other hand, was more than willing to take a backseat and let Cixi rule the country. Her rule continues with carefully calculated plans that wind their way around the opposition ministers of the Court. Eventually foreigners get more trading rights, places to explore in China, and implementation of industrial inventions, such as the telegraph, electricity and the railroad that benefit all countries involved, including China herself. The largest fights over these many years is over the trade of opium, a drug that was destroying China; permission for foreign missionaries to minister in interior China, the burning of the Summer Palace by angry foreigners, the increasing incursion of Japan and other nations, and many other debacles that Cixi manages with aplomb and great diplomatic skill.Cixi toward the end of her life recognizes that her son's rule, like his father's, was a total disaster and fears what will occur when she has gone. She has retired twice but still "managed" or "ruled" China for most of her life; the opposite poles of thinking in the Court almost mandate a Parliamentarian style government for the future in which checks and balances will allow no extremist thinking to destroy the progress. To her credit this was implemented after her death.Every page of this biography, which is also truly a history of China between 1835 and 1912, is fascinating, accurate because of obvious precise research, and exciting. Many ministers are characterized as well, with their strengths and weaknesses exposed for analysis as they make beneficial and deleterious decisions that Cixi must expand or annul. It's a perilous but thrilling journey the reader shares with Cixi and Jung Chang has again written a brilliant story about the violence, weak personal characters, tragedies, joys of China in its drive to become a well-respected, modern nation. Superb in all ways and a great read!

GREAT BOOK, but by itself is totally inadequate. This book is very knowledgeable and thorough, but is in complete disagreement with a number of other great books. Despite the upheavals of 1911,the clash between, Nationalists-&-Communists, takeover by Japan, and the Cultural-Revolution of Chairman Mao, there are many, many authoritative records available, but many of them wildly disagree with each other on many, many major topics.The reasons for this are: very few people actually knew much about the actual live of Cixi, since if you weren't very close to her orbit, all you heard about was 2nd hand at best, and often far more removed than that.Of the people who actually knew about the "REAL" Cixi, I would list just 3: 1) Her chief Eunuchs, there were two, her first one went on a vacation of sorts, which was actually unlawful, although approved by CIXI. Somehow, his behaviour while on vacation led to his being beheaded by a government official in the area he was at, and although it was/would have been against the wishes of Cixi, his beheading was indeed lawful. Almost every person who describes this event, has a wildly different account, even though, in a broad sense, they sort of tell a similar story.2) Her lifelong semi-intimate companion Ronglu, who never left any memoirs, 3) The 'Princess' Der Ling who spent 2 years in her court {1903-1905} as her closest confidant/translator/semi-advisor. Ms Der Ling has been widely criticized and denounced, mostly unfairly by my account, but she wrote lucidly and intelligently about Cixi, and must be considered as a prime source for information about the REAL Cixi.BOTTOM LINE: No single book on Cixi is adequate by itself, at a minimum, if you are interested in her story you MUST read at least 4 books:"Dragon-Lady" by Sterling Seagrave, "Empress Dowager Cixi" by Jung Chang, and 2 of Princess Der Ling's books: "Old Buddha" & "Two Years in the Forbidden City.In addition, I highly recommend the following additional books for reference which are dirt cheap {used here on Amazon}: "Political History of China, 1840-1928, and "China's Last Empire / The Great Qing" by Harvard Press.FOR REAL, great background information on this timeframe you also need to read the extensive writings of Robert Hart, an Englishman who became the second Inspector-General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service from 1863 to 1911. {NOTE: I haven't even begun to go down that road yet}

An exceptional book about a very remarkable woman who was effectively the ruler of China for nearly half a century. She made her share of mistakes (all rulers do), but on the whole was probably among the smartest and wisest heads of state that China -- or any other country -- has ever had. And yet, because of the revolutionary upheavals in that country she has been largely lost sight of by historians (of which I am one by profession) and, even worse, tarred by all kinds of false accusations. It is true that she did represent a nondemocratic dynasty, but she also moved in her final decade in power to give her country an elected parliament and a western-style constitution. Jung Chang at times becomes a bit too enthusiastic about her subject, who she clearly admires, but on the whole this is a sound piece of historical writing, based on sources that have only been uncovered recently, and the prose is a pleasure to read. It would not be wrong to describe this account of the Empress Dowager as a real page-turner you will not want to put down.

Unfortunately, I never got to read this book because when I received it, the spine of the book was so poorly put together that the pages fell out. I sent it back for a replacement and although Amazon was quick to replace it, the exact same thing happened again and the pages came falling out of the book. I was very upset that I didn't get a chance to read it because I would've liked to. I do not own a kindle so there was no option for me to go with a digital version of this book. Thankfully, Amazon is so good about returning items that I will be looking for a refund and maybe try to purchase something else similar to this.

I read this when we had been TTC for awhile and I started to suspect we might have a problem, and this book was exactly what I needed - it took me through everything that we could possibly go through on a journey of infertility and yet it was funny! We ended up getting pregnant about a week after I read this, but I am still glad I now know what some of my friends have gone through. Infertility is incredibly stressful and this book shows you that you are not alone and that one way or another, one day it is going to work out - and that in the meantime it's best to laugh at yourself!

Funny but not a whole lot of facts, compared to other books. Don't expect this book to educate you on cervical mucus or the need to have sex in the 2 days BEFORE you ovulate. Still, this book does help you not feel alone when trying to conceive.

For anyone struggling with infertility I would HIGHLY recommend this book. My husband and I have been struggling for 2 and a half years trying to successfully conceive and carry a pregnancy. This book has helped me in ways I hadn't imagined. It felt like best friend at times when my "real" best friends and family just couldn't understand. Buy this for yourself or anyone you love. You won't be disappointed and neither would the recipient.

This book is awesome. I am just TTC (trying to conceive) and this book really detailed the ups and downs of each month as you ride the roller coaster of your cycle. I also was reassured that if I have to take the next step, seeing a doctor, not all of the options for getting pregnant with help are as scary as I thought.I highly recommend this book if you are just starting to TTC. Also, it mentioned the spit test (OVATEL) that not few of my current friends that are moms had heard of. It is an ovualtion tester that uses just your spit and can be reused a million times.I bought mine on-line for $22. Cheap and it seems to work.Get this book.

I am so glad I bought this book! Trying to get pregnant has turned into such a serious and hard experience for me and this book has helped me to remember my sense of humor. There were some issues discussed in this book that I realated to so much, and they seem so intense as i experience them, but as I read about the authors stories it was absolutely hilarious! Like obsessing over the ovulation strips! If you're having a hard time conceiving you will definitely relate to this book and enjoy it!

This book helps those going through difficulties in trying to conceive see that you are not alone, and you are not crazy! This is just a difficult and trying journey. The book helps readers to laugh at all the crazy things we think and do while dealing with obstacles in trying to conceive. But it also serves as a reminder that many people have a hard time trying to get pregnant and that there is hope out there.

I ordered this book from the recommendation of someone on a bulletin board. What a pleasant surpise! The trials and tribulations of trying to conceive hit close to home, and were presented with warmth and humor. This book was also very informative on the steps you'll go through if you don't succeed in conceiving on your own. I recommend it if you or friend are trying to conceive, and especially if "infertility" treatments may be in your future.

This book is truly life-changing. Iâ€™m very interested in quantum physics and have read a lot about it. I also have read a lot of different books on manifesting. Coming to this from both a scientific perspective as well as a spiritual one, it all makes sense and made me see reality in a totally different perspective. It ties together the spiritual and the scientific and says what I have believed ever since I became interested in quantum physics: the Observer is God Himself. There is no disconnect between the Bible and science- each reinforces the other. We are all connected by consciousness. There is scientific evidence to support all of what this book contains. The more scientists learn, the more they can see that the mystical and the spiritual that we have always known to be true, are not the imaginings of crazy people. It is all true. Reality is not what we have thought it to be, but spiritual teachers, shamans, and others have known the truth from ancient times. Whether or not we live in a virtual reality, as the author says is likely, doesnâ€™t really matter. Reality acts like a simulation, and that is the point. In changing our beliefs, we can change our realities and our lives; through our beliefs we can heal relationships, finances, careers, our minds, our bodies. We are limited only by our beliefs...we can become limitless.

I read this before my spine fusion surgery. What a help, I am off the pain medications early and better than expected by those around me. This book has kept me focused and on track. Not one day of depression or pain that I couldn't shift my focus away from. I am thankful for this procedure because of my preparations. I am healing myself.

I cannot begin to praise this book enough.I am doing the exercises that Gregg recommends in this book. I am truly recognizing old negative subconscious beliefs and doing my inner work to release them and replace them with positive beliefs.I am truly inspired to continue my daily spiritual practices. Belief plays such an important role in healing. This book will bring clarity to that concept. It's an excellent book that you will want to share with anyone dealing with illness.

This is a must read to help us to understand the power we all have to live beyond our expectations. The clarity of his message is phenomenal and the codes at the end are a must study. Thank You, I am so happy I was guided to your book. I will go on to study more of your works.

I love Gregg Braden - his writing style and his ability to make what he's explaining so clear.This is the third book I've read of Gregg's and it's awesome in helping me understand why some of my prayers were answered and some so far have not been (esp. ones for myself!).

I am going through this book for a second time because there is so much to it! I am also buying a copy for my godson. This has really opened my eyes to possibilities. I now have greater faith in making changes to my life and the cool thing about it is that he boils it all down to a factor of quantum physics! How cool is that?The only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is that it is a bit tedious in spots. Worth getting to the end. Loving the second read!
