I use-to teach ... and this study guide is by far the best compilation (3 volumes) I've read and used. Anyone attempting to understand the Bible for what ever the reason will surely find the commentaries useful and accurate. The simplicity of the vernacular is impeccable. I have all three volumes which is an excellent addition to my library. I have painstakingly crossed reference and tested the comments ... they all came back five by five.
I was looking for a good bible study. I wanted something that would align with what I believe and just focus on the scriptures. This commentary is exactly that. Jon does a nice job breaking things down in an easy to understand format without focusing too much on his own opinion. My pastor even recommended this to me so I knew I could trust it. I LOVE this commentary!
I used this book as a commentary along with other commentarys when I prepared for a bible study and found it very useful. I've was also easy to get around, find the different books of the bible and the chapters of each book. Then Kindle asked me if I wanted updated, not thinking I said yes. Now I have trouble finding the index. Most of the time it will just give me the book and I have to page through to the chapter and verse. I don't think I will use this book as a commentary much because it is to hard to get around in it. To bad!
This is a great commentary. I use it in church as my Bible. The verses are there and practically every verse has a nice piece of information that makes the story come alive. Jon Courson's commentary enhances the word, without compromising the truth and the meaning of the word. It feels like playing classical music while looking at classical paintings. Jon Courson's commentary plants a beautiful array of flowers around God's garden of fruit to create an attractive fragrance that will nurture your relationship with the Lord.
I not only have a hard copy of Courson's commentary but bought it for my Kindle so I could always have it at hand. Some Commentaries are drawn out and hard to understand. Jon wrote easy to understand comments so anyone could say "I got it." I have 2 other commentaries and get bogged down with all the big words and long explanations. Jon's commentary is for people who do not have a PHD in Divinity. I can hardly wait for his OT to be available for my Kindle. Why did I buy Courson's Commentary? I have listened to his sermons on radio for years and enjoyed his teachings. I had faith that his commentary would be good.
Reading Pastor Jon Courson's explanation of the Old Testament, The Prophets, and the New Testament has given me a thirst for the Living Water that our Lord speaks. I can't wait for my reading time to arrive. If you are seeking to understand the prophets in light of todays world; are you seeking for the information regarding the DAY OF THE LORD - or the end time explained? Jon's comments reflect the current state of affairs in the middle east. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament come alive with his verse by verse comments and then; when this is an essential understanding that we the reader must grasp; Jon provides a mini sermon expanding how the word is used in both the Greek and in the Hebrew. I must say that this read is the clearest and most insightful help into understand the Word of God.
I enjoy Jon's style of writing. I sat under his teaching both at church and the radio ministry, and he always keeps you focused on Jesus. He uses numerous examples, both from text and personal experiences, to help clarify and understand certain passages. He articulates well and expresses a solid command of the English language. He knows the Word and sheds much light throughout the book. I do use it as my daily devotional, and have for many years, as well as a study resource for class. I would definitely recommend this commentary and have, for daily reading, or for an additional study resource.
I finished this and am now starting Mr. Courson's Old Testament study. This is a great commentary for both new and mature Christians. The plain spoken approach Mr. Courson uses in explaining scripture and applying it through his anecdotes is superb. I've learned a lot more about the Bible, its historical context, and what it means to follow my Lord Jesus. Amen!
