The best book on leadership I have read to date. I was promoted today to a first line supervisory position, and am fortunate that I found the book and nine key concepts. The concepts along with a toolbox that you can access online will help me be accountable to keep on track with my main job...leading people. The book gives great insight into human behavior and is written in an entertaining and engaging way. James uses clever stories to illustrate leadership truths throughout the book that have helped me grasp and retain the concepts he is conveying. He is a great teacher and communicator. Lessons learned from the book have already helped me introduce myself to the team in a positive way starting on day one!

This is an excellent book for all Managers or Supervisors who want to become Leaders. The book is laid out in an easy to follow fashion, and I love the personal stories that are interspersed in the book.If you can't find 9 minutes at the beginning of your work week to improve your leadership and most importantly enhance your relationships with those who work for you, then you might want to find another vocation.

I bought this book on BookBub, and this gives great tips on how to manage people. I really thought the author made excellent points on how to effectively manage just by creating a 9 minute template. If managers did this effectively, workers would be more productive and happier.

A lot of this wasn't new to me, but the nine concrete, tangible, bite-sized tools are fantastic. Anyone in a leadership position, and anyone who wants to be, should consider this a must-read! You don't have to be a manager to be a leader, and these are excellent tools for cultivating leadership.

"A Guide to Somatic OMing" describes the *culture* that has develop around the practice of orgasmic meditation (OM). Take note that this is not a book where you can learn the practice itself. For example, at least in the 1st edition, the location of the 1 o'clock spot is not described clearly (pages 70-71). However, the book does provide references to other sources where OM is described in detail.Jamancar's account of the culture of OM is authoritative for two reasons. First, he was present from the inception of OM and narrates an early history of its development. Second, the whole book was apparently posted piece-by-piece in the OMwiki Facebook group and vetted by its members. In effect, the book was peer reviewed, comparable with scholarly scientific writing.For Jamancar, OM offers some innovation: "OM isn't just pussy-stroking---there are dozens (and probably have been hundreds over the millennia) of pussy-stroking models / systems. What makes OM so potent and useful in this 21st century is the encompassing social model (culture) is a fully formed alternative---and vast improvement---to the sinking quagmire of today's meta-culture (aka, the west)" (p. 34). But I think he understates the case. In "Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human" by Richard Wrangham, we learned how social forces unleashed some half million years ago placed women in the kitchen, engendering an enduring patriarchy. I think it is not unreasonable to speculate that OM is historically unprecedented and a novel development in the evolution of our species. Never before in human history have OM practitioners around the world been able to "connect with strangers who they may have barely met and have an OM together" (p. 35).For those new to OM, this may seem like a fantastical utopia (or dystopia!), far outside of societal norms. Jamancar implies that monogamy has been redefined for many in the OM community, bifurcated to accommodate a new type of sexual experience that is not sex. Couples may choose to OM openly with other partners while remaining monogamous with respect to sexual intercourse and family relations. For those who come to the book with an open mind, a whole new world awaits.

A lot of time is spent on the legal, regulatory, and business aspects of being a sports agent, which is good. A lot of time is also spent on how the business of being a sports agent has evolved over the years. It is published by The University of Pennsylvania Press, a top book publisher with ties to one of the top universities in the world. A lot of good information here, but much of it is written, presented and organized in such an amateurish fashion that it detracts from the overall impact of the book. It's too bad because it could have been much better. By now a great deal of the book is out of date anyway. We could really use an update that not only includes recent developments but also cleans up the writing and organizational problems that raise a lot of problems throughout.

Had to buy a thirty dollar plus book to tell me what this book said. Still trying to find out.

Itâ€™s a little difficult to know how to review a epochal work like Being and Nothingness. Instead of summarizing the material, a herculean task given its eight hundred pages, Iâ€™ll simply provide what to expect and briefly share my opinions on his methods to help decide if this is worth your reading.As I understand him, Sartre is above all a phenomenologist. Engaging with the tradition of Hegel, Husserl and Heidegger most of the text is devoted to descriptions of how Sartre experienced his humanity. Assertions abound and new and complex terminology is developed, all around a new account of human consciousness and the world.Sartre reminds you how little philosophy has changed since Aristotle. In the Metaphysics Aristotle summarized his predecessors and laid down a sweeping account of the cosmos all based on his reflections on language, custom and personal experience.In the hands of a great thinker like Sartre a similar technique does result in some brilliant insights. Moreover, he is undoubtedly one of the primary sources of post-modernism. However, there is also a hard to understand lack of attention to germane material outside of philosophy.For example, there is a one hundred page description of time without any consideration of the unity of space and time in special relativity. While the human experience of temporality is finely illuminated is it too much to ask that it be informed by other disciplines?These oversights leads you to think that in an age making such strides towards understanding the physiology of consciousness, Sartreâ€™s phenomenological approach seems rather dated and unnecessary. Those partial to this type of philosophizing may, however, disagree.Obviously you are in the presence of a great mind but will and should this way of almost solipsistic reasoning about the world endure? It seems to grow increasingly passÃ© as the scientific outlook on humanity advances. In my opinion, for all its genius, Being and Consciousness is more of a relic than a living philosophical text. I wish I had not devoted the time to read it but, again, others will certainly differ.

Jean-Paul Sartre's "Being and Nothingness" is the fundamental text of Existentialism. His examination of ontology constantly reviews previous existential philosophy by building on, and refuting, the work of prior philosophers.Sartre begins with a framework on nothingness and negations. Nothingness does not have being but is supported by being. It comes into existence through the for-itself and allows consciousness to exist. Negations are acts which contain negativity as part of their structure (ex: absence.) He then progresses to an examination of Bad Faith. This is essentially a false consciousness which a person pursues to flee from their own freedom.The most theoretically important part of the book regarding ontology is Sartre's explanation of Being-for-itself and Being-for-others. Being-for-itself is an examination of the works of Descartes, Husserl, etc, into the nature of the individuals being and consciousness. "The Other" is a concept from Hegel that Sartre alters to explain others around us. For Sartre "The Other" is in a constant battle to deprive the other person of their freedom without extinguishing their being.The second half of his treatise deals with issues mostly empirical in nature. Sartre has an impeccable knowledge of philosophy and the physical science up to 1943 (philosophy, biology, psychology, pyschics, etc..) He uses the theory of ontology to reexamine empirical issues where he finds scientific fields lacking. In the end Sartre devises a `Existential Psychoanalysis' (Existentialism) to examine psychological phenomenon through an ontological lens.For Sartre humans are thrown into the world, in a situation, but have absolute freedom over choice. They are responsible for their choice. Whether they chose to actively pursue something or passively submit THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE. This responsibility is not meant as an ethical judgment but rather a statement of fact.Sartre almost completely eschews ethical judgments in "Being and Nothingness." His objective throughout the work is to explain the ontological foundation of being. He reserves 2 pages at the end of the book discussing ethics. His advice is to strive for a synthesis of the being-in-itself with the being-for-itself (a true single consciousness between body and mind.) A person can then strive to attain their values (which are subjective in nature.)Note: Sartre assumes his readers have read essentially every existential philosopher since Plato. He gives brief descriptions of each philosopher's theory but I strongly recommend you read their work before "Being and Nothingness." Sartre also uses incredibly obtuse language (which is made worse through translation.) While not as bad as other philosophers his work forces the person to actively read everything he says. Sartre commands an excellent understanding of science but actively rejects some of its most basic premises because science fails to ask the right questions. While some of the science he talks about has long been disproven for the most part his understanding of science remains valid.Note #2: I read the Gramercy edition.I strongly recommend "Being and Nothingness" to anyone interested in ontology with a strong background in philosophy and the psychical sciences.

This is the book where Sartre gives his first and most thorough explanations of Bad Faith, as well as overtly explains his ontology. If I had to recommend one book to understand the philosophy of Sartre, I would recommend this one. It is where we see Sartre's blueprint to the categorization of his world, and I think it is very beautiful.

Do no buy this edition of the book. It is blurry unreadable on newspaper type paper.

I love it!!

My 2-1/2 year old boy loves the box with books. They are very quality, and perfect to read to a toddler, especially before going to sleep. The books are really small, smaller than other mini books we have, I should have read their size when ordering them. Still, they are fun for my boy.

Love this set of books. Are strong, tough cardboard pages that hold up to my 2 1/2-year-old grand child's rough play. He absolutely loves the little box that they came in as it has a handle on the top and he loves to carry them around. Stories are just the right length to hold a 2 1/2 year olds attention span. Very colorful pictures and fun brief stories. I also love the small size which is perfect for my grandchild's tiny little hands to hold.

Purchased books for my 4 year old Grandson. He loves the books and wants to read over and over again. I expected this to happen.My 16 month old Grandson saw the books laying on the coffee table. His face lit up. His face was filled with the excitement of Christmas, his birthday, and the July 4th rolled into one. He picked up the book and greeted the characters on front of the book with a big smile. He recognizedthe pups from Paw Patrol! Great books! Great stories that teach the right lessons our kids need!

This is a great little box of books. There are 4 little adventure books that the kids enjoy. Will be great to take to church or out anywhere really. Very small and compact.

My two year old loves Paw Patrol but isn't crazy about these board books. Each book is an embarrassingly short synopsis of an episode. It doesn't even read like a short kids story, nevermind a typical board book. These books are akin to a TV Guide's episode synopsis except with cute pictures.

Perfect little book collection for my little Paw Patrol fan. These are the perfect size for my son and we have been enjoying reading the stories.

My daughter always loves those block books but turning 2 these were a great step up! Four real stories based on episodes just perfect for a 2 year olds attention span and such a nice size! She can recognize the stories as they are read and just perfect!
