I had seen an older edition of this book on a friendâ€™s coffee table and was thrilled that I was able to get my own copy. For those who love Dallas, and even for those who donâ€™t, this is a really nice book.

Great book! Pictures of Dallas are priceless. Dallas is changing so fast; new buildings going up everywhere; neighborhoods changing and people moving in from the rest of the country. I hope the author continues to update the book.

I bought it as a gift and the recipient appreciated the photos and quality of the book.

It had some good photos but didn't cover all that it could on more recent photos

I really like the way Fitzgerald compiled it. The photos of early Dallas (my hometown) were great, and directly opposite, the photos of the way it is now, just as the title depicts. It brought forth favorite memories, and makes a great coffee table book.

Fort Worth Then and NowI purchased this book and the Fort Worth Edition. They are both amazing books. I've never seen anything quite like these. My dad would have loved these books.

Although I had a gay uncle, I never knew anyone my age who was out until I graduated from undergrad and moved to a larger city. ANNIE ON MY MIND was a HUGE deal and one of my favorite books. I was thrilled to see it become available for Kindle.Younger readers should view ANNIE ON MY MIND as accurate historical fiction, because so much has changed in thirty-five years. Rereading the story gave me a real sense of nostalgia, pre-electronic immersion, but also when fear and hate were the norm.

In an age where less than 1% of young adult books have gay, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual characters, it is important to promote the ones that are out there.In a time when it was considered extremely taboo, teenaged Liza finds herself falling in love with another girl, her vivacious new friend Annie. Told from Lizaâ€™s point of view, Annie On My Mind illustrates the development of their relationship, the confusion that Liza feels over her newly discovered sexuality, and the turmoil that comes as a result of being caught in the act of making love at a teacherâ€™s house. Though this book was written over 20 years ago, I think that young adults would still find it relatable, and the material didnâ€™t feel overly dated when I was reading it. Above all, the emotions ring true and give the book real authenticity.It is an unfortunate truth that the vast majority of books with romantic plots deal with a guy and a girl, and itâ€™s really a shame that arenâ€™t more that embrace other kinds of people too. Homosexuality is a very touchy and controversial subject for a lot of people, for whatever reason, and young people may not always feel comfortable asking others about different sexualities and lifestyles. That is one of the many reasons that it is important to have books that show other kinds of people and other ways to love. Weâ€™re not all cookie cutter people, so why should the characters in books be? Annie On My Mind tells a very lovely and realistic story with good characters and a satisfying ending.Maybe the story of Liza and Annie will help others who may find themselves confused or struggling and assure them that they, too, are normal and loved and things can work out positively no matter what your sexual orientation might be. Or, you know, maybe the story will just be an entertaining read for anyone. As a reader, I appreciate a well-told story with good characters, period. In Annie On My Mind, the two girls are fully realized characters who never fall into stereotypes. Their love is so charming and sweet that it was a delight to read.Highly recommended.

This is a bittersweet story of young love, but more than that it is a story of self acceptance in the face of a world that is sometimes hostile. The portions of the story about Liza and Annie's developing relationship are beautifully told and the retrospective style of the writing prepares the reader well for the less pleasant aspects of the story. It is also rather nostalgic, as someone who grew up back then, in the days before cellphones and the internet, when you had to talk to your crush from a phone tethered to the kitchen wall and deal with whichever of your family members who happened to pop by during the conversion... Not to mention calling them from a payphone at your college dorm... Been there... Done that... It's rough! Lol!Highly recommended!

When I first started to read this I was very confused about why it started the way it did, but as I read on it was more on about Lizaâ€™s view of the past before coming to the present once she realized she was free. The emotions were really emotional the love and the fear Annie and Liza had and then the judgement that she was getting. But over all after hearing the story about Nancy( the author) and what she went through made it all come together. And the very end of the book made complete sense and the love that Annie and Liza have make extremely happy

Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden is an extraordinary story. I read it in one sitting. The story is very honest and real. Considering the time period this story was written, readers will find it refreshing to discover a happy ending in the mist of love, pain, decisions, and self-discovery and acceptance. A coming of age story that everyone should read whether you are gay, straight, bi, or whatever. The fact that this book has been banned from many school libraries, the more reason to read it.

This was a book that opened my eyes to the issues facing those who fall in love with those society deem not appropriate. The book shows that love is just that, love, but in cases like this, the people have a harder time and more obstacles due to societies view points and ideas.

Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden has always been one of my favorite books. I'm not sure whether that has to do with the fact that it's the first LGBTQ book I ever read (and actually liked) or if it's because of Garden's captivating details & dynamics. Either way, this novel will make you feel all warm inside. Liza & Annie's story is real, intriguing, & beautiful. It will remind you of your first love, and it will bring back so many memories that you haven't thought of in a long time (especially if you're like me and are only 17).The only issue that I ever had with this book is that there was never a sequel written about Liza & Annie, and I've always wondered what happened with those two. Though I guess the ending does reveal a little, but my mind is a curious one & will never be satisfied.So no, you will not be dissapointed if you read this novel. Rather, the opposite.

This is not an emotion-driven book, venting frustration at the Church or anything of that nature. It is a thoughtful engagement with Scripture, loving critique of past mistakes Christians have made, and a legitimate stance and discussion on what the Bible says about homosexuality and how that should inform how we engage with the world around us.

This is one of the most lovingly written conservative and Biblical views on this subject. I can not express enough the lovingly truthful and truthfully loving way this book was written. Very helpful in healing unanswered questions that one might not even know to ask, or how to ask. A great read for not only teens but also parents, family members and friends.

Unless you live under a rock you have wrestled with the questions in this book and struggled to find answers. Preston Sprinkle does a great job of helping teens and adults understand the issues and form a compassionate yet biblical view. Highly recommended!

With it's beautiful illustrations and simple text, the story of Me...Jane is simply a wonderful telling of Jane Goodall's young life. With it's adorable cover, this is one children's book I want to display proudly in my library.I grew up a fan of Jane Goodall and being able to share this story with my kids and reading a little bit about Jane's life is fascinating. It's not just the story I love, but the illustrations and soft pastel colors really bring this story to life.With Jane's inspirational message to "Follow Your Dreams", this is a book that I'd recommend to have in your personal home library and in the classroom. This is a great book to introduce younger students to Jane Goodall. I would be really surprised if Me... Jane doesn't win some sort of award. It's truly a beautiful book and a wonderful story.

I was so pleased to find this little book about one of the most remarkable women of our time written for children, especially little girls. In this culture so iced over with materialistic pop media divas, super human heroines, non stop noise, razzle dazzle and bling, this little book is a lovely respite. It shows the world through the quite, thoughtful, curious point of view of a sensitive, smart and determined little girl who pursued her interests and left her mark on the world's consciousness though her life's work. I wish it had been a little longer, had more information about Jane and her experiences, but I think it will be a meaningful affirmation for another little girl I know who also loves animals, is very curious and very determined.( I liked the illustrations too!)

This is a beautiful book that honors the childhood of Jane Goodall. It is simple and dreamy. The only problem with it is that the author did not put any emphasis on Goodallâ€™s hard work and focus as a young adult to achieve what she did. It simply states that she dreamed of working with animals, was interested in animals as a child, and then *poof* woke up to that dream as an adult. As an educator and a parent, I would have liked to see more focus put on her hard work to make such a difference.

Itâ€™s a simple book, but itâ€™s one my two year old asks for again and again. She likes to look for the monkey on each page. Her favorite page is one where Jane contemplates life and nature around her â€œit was a magical world and Jane felt very much a part of it...she could feel her own heart beating, beating, beatingâ€. My child puts her hand to her chest and feels for her own heartbeat. Itâ€™s such a simple way to get kids to tune into their surroundings and contemplate nature around them. Bonus that itâ€™s about the real Jane Goodall and features some of her drawings as a child.

Great message to girls everywhere that you can do anything if you have the desire and perseverance to do it. Beautiful illustrations taken from nature drawings Jane did herself. Such a creative story we read it over and over. Itâ€™s a good introduction to the genre of autobiographies that kids have a hard time sometimes getting into. Even though the reading level is for little ones itâ€™s still a great book for older readers weâ€™ve given this book as a birthday book gift a few years in a row!

By four thumbs, I mean chimps, of course! And as a human, I give it two thumbs up! This book is beautiful--both in its tender telling of how Jane Goodall became the naturalist she is today and in its wonderful illustrations, accentuated on facing pages with Jane's actual art from when she was a little girl and the antique animal engravings sprinkled like rubber stampings on the pages. I think this is my favorite of Pat McD's children's books so far. The printing, paper, binding and dust jacket also accentuate this lovely volume. I heartily recommend it for children, and for anyone of any age who loves nature, animals, and of course, Pat and Jane. Don't miss it!

I search high and low for those books about girls that will appeal to a toddler boy and this is one of them. I wish there were more stories about girls out there that defy stereotypes.

I adore Jane Goodall, so her story is just amazing already. This book is beautifully illustrated with high detail and color. The book itself is high quality paper and binding. I often purchase this as gifts for other children.

This book is one of the few works dealing with Japan's intelligence system and the military police (Kenpeitai) during World War II. It is an essential work for anyone working in this area. However, the book itself is let down by the flimsy nature of the analysis and the gratuitous comparison between the Kenpeitai and the Gestapo. This is not to say that the Kenpeitai were not brutal and that they did not commit vile crimes on humanity. What is true though is they were not anything like the Gestapo as their dealings with the Japanese population remained highly constrained by law and very few Japanese suffered at their hands for holding anti-government opinions or views.

The author actually tenderly tells a tale of overt acts of racism, bayoneting, torture, murder and vivisection on populations other than the Japanese, by the beyond SS of the country of the Rising Sun, there was a disregard by the allies for prisoners of the Japanese during the war up past September, 45. MacArthur was partially responsible and the British cared not for their people. A wonderful read.

Very interesting reading. Never heard of them until a TV documentary. Very nasty people. Worst than the Gestapo. Why was this kept a secret all these years.

I thought this was very readable. It did not get bogged down in trying to overly explain the minutiae of the Kempetai table of organization. There was just enough of that background info to understand the scope and reach of the organization. The book concentrated on what the military secret police did and why and how they did it. Exactly what I wanted. Calling them Japan's Gestapo was not an exaggeration. If anything it is an understatement.

Prompt delivery and covers a subject often overlooked and nearly forgotten piece of history.

Much of what is written here may be known but this book is a very good compilation of the vicious actions by the Japanese secret police in WWII. Hard to read and hard to out down. Opens the eyes.

Great book and great price!

Not my favorite writing style, but the book was in good condition
